LUCIA DE A. MELIM
Lucia was born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil and has lived, studied and worked in Moscow, New York City, Paris, Hong Kong and Washington DC.
She has a degree in Languages, with a BA in Translation and Interpretation from PUC-RJ (Rio de Janeiro Catholic University), and specialised studies in Philology at the Moscow State University, Russia, and the University of Dijon, France.
She is a translator and conference interpreter working in person and remotely in Brazil and abroad for over 30 years. Lucia moved to and lived in Washington DC from 2017 to 2024 where she worked for major Washington-based multilateral organizations, such as the OAS - Organisation of American States; IDB - Inter-American Development Bank; World Bank: IMF - International Monetary Fund and PAHO - Pan American Health Organisation.
Her working languages are Portuguese, English, French and Spanish.
Lucia joined the Geneva-based Association Internationale des Intérprètes de Conférence (AIIC) in 2000 and was elected a member of the Association's Council, representing the Brazil Region, for the 2009-2011 triennium.
She is a member of the National Union of Conference Interpreters and Translators (SINTRA), based in Rio de Janeiro.
VERONICA PIRES
Born in Cairo, Egypt, she has lived and studied in Washington DC, Rio de Janeiro, London, Mexico City and Canberra.
Graduated in Nursing & Obstetrics, with a course in Simultaneous and Consecutive Interpreting at UERJ - Rio de Janeiro State University.
Translator and Conference Interpreter working in person and remotely in Brazil and abroad for over 30 years. Her working languages are Portuguese, English and Spanish. She has worked in a variety of fields, including medicine, education, insurance, cinema, among others; she has been part of interpreting teams at major events such as Eco ‘92, the 2014 World Cup, the Rio 2016 Olympics, among others.
She joined the Geneva-based Association Internationale des Intérprètes de Conférence (AIIC) in 2000.
She joined the Professional Association of Conference Interpreters (APIC) based in São Paulo in 2013.
She is a member of the National Union of Conference Interpreter Translators (SINTRA), based in Rio de Janeiro.
